About us

Crosland Moor Junior School is a larger than average primary school. We currently have 480 children from Year 3 to 6 and between us, we speak 18 different languages.

Here are some of the things the children say about being in our school:

"I think CMJS is a really good school because we have healthy meals." Year 5 student

"I enjoy Art, PE (because I like being fit and healthy) and Literacy." Year 5 student

"I think Crosland Moor Junior School School is an amazing school because the children in the school treat others like we are a family." Year 6 student

"It is really enjoyable at CMJS as there are lots of games and if you are stuck, the teachers will help you." Year 6 student

"I like doing early morning work because it sometimes stretches your brain!" Year 6 student

"I like maths because I like making number sentences." Year 3 student

Homework

Literacy and Numeracy homework is set in year groups.

New spellings are given on a Monday, to be learnt for the test on Friday.

Projects are set in year groups on a termly basis. These are usually related to our creative curriculum and give children the chance to show off all that they have learnt.

We encourage children to take home two books to read over the week, a book of their choice from the library and a levelled reader. Mrs Haigh and Mrs Turner will be monitoring how often the children change their books and there will be rewards and prizes for those who swap their books regularly.

It is really important that children are given the time to read to an adult at home regularly, five minutes, on a daily basis, will make a big difference. Sometimes children enjoy listening to an adult read as well, you could take it in turns to read paragraphs or pages. Parents and carers should try to sign their child's purple home school contact book on a weekly basis.
